  The sudden death of Air Charles Searle, of Piri Piri, which took place on Wednesday, will be deeply regretted by a wide circle of friends. The deceased gentleman had recovered from a severe seizure a week earlier and was apparently making a speedy return to health. Deceased, who was 57 years of age, came from Australia with his family in 1884 and settled in tho Pin Piri district,' taking up land there. He had always shown a great interest in the progress of the district and was ever ready to support .any movement to encourage and assist sport, so that his passing will be a severe loss to the district. He is survived by liis widow, one daughter (Aliss K. Searle), and two sons (Colin and ' Kenneth Searle), while his three brothers are Alessrs T. Searle (Delaware), John Searle (Ashhurst) and Wilfred Searle (Hokianga) and three sisters are Mrs Sims (Feilding), Airs Thomas (Ashhurst) and Mrs Wilson (Colyton). The funeral cortege left Piri Piri at noon yesterday, the service being conducted by Rev. T. Fordyce, Methodist minister at Ashhurst. There was also a large following of brethren from the Apiti and Ashhurst Masonic lodges, the officers from which conducted an impressive service at the graveside.
